IBM Graduate Scheme 2027: Entry-Level Roles, Process & How to Apply
IBM does not advertise one fixed UK graduate scheme with a single deadline. Instead it hires graduates into individual entry-level roles through its careers site, with separate routes for internships, apprenticeships and a European sales programme. That makes timing and preparation different from a bank or Big Four scheme: you apply to a specific job, and the process varies by role and region. This guide sets out what IBM says about each route and how the stages work. If you are weighing it against other consulting-led employers, see Accenture, Deloitte and Capgemini.

IBM entry-level routes
IBM’s UK entry-level page lists four routes. The entry-level job search covers recent graduates and students. The Internship programmes put interns on projects from day one. The IBM Apprenticeship Program is for people without a degree who have experience in their field. The IBM Sales Accelerator Program for Europe trains ambitious graduates as sales professionals, and the intake shown on IBM’s page is based in Valencia, so it may not suit a UK-based applicant. You can follow new roles by joining the IBM Talent Network or setting job alerts.
Who can apply
IBM sets requirements per job, and the posting is the source of truth. An earlier register-your-interest listing for the 2025 cycle asked for a minimum 2:1, but we could not confirm that this applies to current roles, so check each advert. IBM advises that if you do not meet every requirement but have a strong background, you should still apply.
IBM application process: stage by stage
IBM’s application steps page describes five stages, and says the hiring process may vary by location and region.
- Application. Apply online to one role at a time (you can apply to as many roles as you like). Applications cannot be edited after submission; you can withdraw and reapply while the role is open.
- Screening. IBMers with expertise in your field review your application, skills and experience.
- Online assessment. One or two assessments, depending on the role: a coding assessment (multiple choice or coding challenges), a video assessment answered on webcam, and a text-based English language assessment.
- Interview. A phone, video or in-person interview, or an assessment centre visit with a group exercise and in-person interview.
- Decision. IBM shares its decision after the final interview and, if you accept, guides you through onboarding.
IBM gives no overall timeframe, because it depends on the role and the number of applications. A status of “No Longer Under Consideration” straight after applying usually means a basic job requirement was not met.
The consulting case interview
For entry-level consulting, IBM’s candidate guide (published 2025, with the caveat that rounds vary by region and track) lists: CV screening; a recorded video interview in certain regions plus an online coding assessment for Developer and Data Scientist roles; a recruiter screening interview; a first-round case interview; and a second-round behavioural interview. IBM’s advice is to ask probing questions, walk the interviewer through your reasoning, and be ready to answer “Why are you interested in IBM Consulting?”. It also warns that consultants can travel for as much as 90% of the time depending on the client. For background on the role, read what a consultant does.

AI use in your application
IBM publishes a policy. Encouraged: improving grammar and clarity, interview practice and researching the company. Not allowed: generating an entire CV or cover letter without your input, completing assessments or coding challenges with AI, or using AI during live interviews. Violations can lead to disqualification. Our cover letter guide shows how to write your own version well.
How to prepare
- Practise coding questions on LeetCode, Pramp or HackerRank, as IBM suggests for technical roles.
- Prepare STAR-style examples that name outcomes: what you achieved and how you measured it.
- Use our assessment centre guide for group exercises and our ATS-friendly resume guide for your CV.
- Ignore unsolicited offers: IBM says its recruiters never use personal email domains such as Gmail.
IBM graduate salary
IBM does not publish a graduate pay band on the pages we opened. On Glassdoor, Graduate Software Engineer submissions average about £34,000 base from 63 reports; recent UK entries range from £25,000 to £36,000, mostly at Hursley, with one London entry at £33,000. These are reported, self-submitted figures, so check your offer. See the take-home with Debut’s Paycheck Calculator.
IBM vs other graduate employers
IBM’s route is role-by-role, closer to Google and Amazon than to a fixed cohort at Deloitte. Browse all employers on our Graduate Scheme hub.
