Shell Graduate Scheme 2027: How to Apply, Stages and Deadlines

The Shell graduate scheme in the UK is the Shell Graduate Programme: a three-year leadership development programme for people who study or finish a degree in the UK. According to Shell’s UK graduate programme page, applications for the 2027 programme are open now, with the Technical and Finance routes advertised and four paths in total (Technical, Trading & Supply, Finance and Commercial). When does the Shell graduate scheme open?

Shell’s UK page says applications for the 2027 programme are open now, and it publishes no closing date. A third-party listing for the 2026 intake showed a December 2025 deadline and said Shell recruits on a rolling basis and may close earlier if roles are filled (Reported, Bright Network), so do not wait for a December deadline. Which Shell graduate paths can you join?

Shell groups its graduate programme into four paths, each with its own business areas. The page lists Technical and Finance as separate application routes and names Trading & Supply and Commercial as the other two paths. Shell says that, depending on availability of roles, coaches and your skills, it will find a suitable place for you within the company, so the job you receive after the offer may not be the one you pictured when you applied.

• Technical: engineering and science roles. Shell lists it as its own application route.
• Finance: finance roles. Also its own application route.
• Trading & Supply: named as a path on the programme page.
• Commercial: named as a path on the programme page.

A third-party listing for the 2026 intake placed UK roles in London and Aberdeen (Reported, Bright Network, now closed); Shell’s own page does not name locations, so check the live job listing for the exact base.

Who can apply to the Shell graduate scheme?

Shell’s eligibility rules are short. You must be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the United Kingdom, graduating in 2027 or within the last three years. You must live in the UK and have graduated before your first day. Shell does not state a minimum degree classification or subject on this page. The 2026 listing we saw asked for a 2:1, but that is Reported for last year, so check the live advert before assuming it applies.

If you are still in your penultimate or final year and not ready for a graduate role, Shell runs a separate Assessed Internship Programme for students in their final two years of study; Shell says a successful assessed intern can earn a formal graduate offer.

Shell graduate application process: three stages

Shell lists three stages on its programme page. Stage one is online and short; stage two is the real filter.

1. Virtual Job Try-out and On-demand Interview. You work through job simulations, then record your interview answers. You must finish the on-demand interview within 7 days of the invitation. Shell says the two together take about 40 minutes.
2. Final assessment: case study and interview (online). You complete an online case study session with two Shell employees, using information provided in advance, then an online interview with the same two people.
3. Job offer. After stage two, Shell can offer you a place on the programme and then finds a suitable role.

Shell says the case study information is provided in advance and you will need to read and prepare for it. Because the same two employees run the case study and the interview, treat them as one continuous conversation: your reasoning in the case is what they will probe in the interview. Shell graduate salary and benefits

Shell does not publish a graduate salary on its UK programme page (Not published). The only figure we found was a Glassdoor estimate built on five submitted salaries (Reported, Glassdoor, June 2026), which is far above any plausible graduate pay and is not a usable benchmark, so we do not quote it. The programme page names no benefits either, apart from structured development: a development plan agreed with your line manager, formal training, coaching and an end-of-programme assessment. Ask about pay at the offer stage and check the live job advert.

Shell graduate programme structure: what the three years look like

Shell describes the three years as a learning journey that “may include” job rotations, on-the-job challenges, formal training and coaching. Each graduate has a development plan co-created with their line manager. At the end, Shell reviews your performance and achievements in an end-of-programme assessment, and a successful outcome leads to the next phase of your career at Shell. It is a leadership programme rather than a fixed rotation timetable, so the experience varies by path.

How Shell compares with other UK graduate schemes

Shell’s process is lighter at the front end than most large employers: no CV screen is described, and the first step takes about 40 minutes. The trade-off is that it does not publish a salary or closing date. If you want engineering employers that do publish more, compare Shell with Siemens, Rolls-Royce, Arup and Network Rail.
