The Google Graduate Scheme isn’t one fixed programme the way Accenture or EY run theirs. Google hires UK early-career talent on a rolling basis through separate routes: the Associate Product Manager (APM) Program, the STEP internship for first- and second-year students, and direct Software Engineer, University Graduate roles. Does Google Have a Graduate Scheme?
Not in the sense of a fixed cohort programme like those at banks or the Civil Service. Google lists many separate roles, from internships to early-career positions, and each has its own dates and eligibility. Some programmes exist for early-career talent, for example the APM Marketing programme described by Sadiq, which is a two-year rotational programme for early-career marketers, but eligibility and locations vary. The APM Intern Role
APM interns work on product problems with engineers and designers. Because the role is a 12-week summer internship, it works as a route into later full-time opportunities, but that is not guaranteed. Read the posting for the exact responsibilities and minimum qualifications.
Who Can Apply?
You must be in your penultimate or final year at university and based in EMEA. Google does not offer visa sponsorship for this posting, so you need existing right to work. You will submit a CV and a transcript, so request an up-to-date transcript early.
How to Apply for Google Graduate Scheme
Google runs candidates through five stages (typical process, based on reported candidate experiences):
- Online application: via Google Careers: CV, transcript, and for APM roles a cover letter where requested.
- Recruiter screen / online assessment: a short call, or for SWE roles a 60-90 minute coding test.
- Technical phone screen: a 45-minute coding interview with a Google engineer (SWE track); APM candidates get a case-style product screen.
- Onsite/virtual loop: 2-4 rounds covering coding, behavioural questions and, for APM, product sense.
- Hiring committee review: a separate panel makes the final call, which is why the process can run 8-12 weeks.

Salary figures are reported by Glassdoor users, not published by Google:
- New Grad Software Engineer: £63,000-£68,000 total pay, about £65,000 average base
- Associate Product Manager: about £60,000 average base in London (21 reported salaries)
- STEP Internship: paid stipend for the 10-12 week placement; the UK rate isn’t published
APM eligibility (reported): a bachelor’s degree with technical aptitude (not strictly CS) and under 2 years of PM experience. STEP eligibility: first or second year of a Computer Science or related degree, with some Java, C++ or Python experience. The APM Intern role requires you to be in your penultimate or final year, based in EMEA, with right to work, as Google doesn’t offer sponsorship for it.

Google Programme Structure
There’s no rotation model like Accenture’s four tracks. You’re hired directly into a team and product area. Reported APM hires get structured mentorship from senior PMs and typically rotate teams every 18-24 months. For comparison, Google’s Associate Product Marketing Manager programme is described by Google as a two-year rotational programme for early-career marketers (Google blog).

Google’s UK base is London, split across 6 Pancras Square and the new King’s Cross HQ, Platform 37, which will eventually house up to 7,000 staff and is Google’s largest office outside the US. UK graduate roles are based in London unless a posting says otherwise.

STEP applications typically open September-October for the following summer. APM University Graduate applications for London have historically run a short window in November. Direct SWE roles are posted and closed on a rolling basis, often within a week, so set a job alert.
