Aldi Graduate Scheme (Area Manager Programme) 2026/27: How to Apply, Salary & Process
The Aldi Graduate Scheme (Area Manager Programme) is a 12-month, intensely hands-on route into store leadership, not a classroom programme. You start on the shop floor, stacking shelves and learning the “Aldi way” of doing things, before working up to running your own group of stores. Aldi’s application window for the 2026/27 recruitment season is open. If you’re weighing retail leadership against other routes, browse the full range of graduate schemes in our hub, or compare our Amazon Graduate Scheme and BT Graduate Scheme breakdowns alongside this one.
How to Apply for Aldi Graduate Scheme
Aldi runs candidates through five stages. Recruitment runs region by region, and each region closes once its places are filled, so check the live posting for your target location and apply in the first few weeks rather than watching the calendar.
- Online application and tests. Online application plus tests assessing your judgement and analytical skills.
- Video interview. A short “Who am I?” video where you show your leadership qualities and knowledge of Aldi.
- Online psychometric test. A link is sent to you to complete a test that measures core skills and personal qualities.
- Individual assessment. A short presentation followed by a one-to-one competency interview with an Aldi assessor.
- Final interview. With the Regional Managing Director.
Note that Aldi’s own tips video describes this stage as a group assessment, so check your invitation for the format.
Applying early matters here: Aldi fills roles as strong candidates come through, so an application late in a region’s window is far weaker than one in the first week it opens.
As Aldi puts it on its own recruitment site: “It’s not just about being efficient. It’s about being effective too.”

Requirements
96 UCAS points (or 63 Scottish Highers) from your top 3 A-Levels, a 2:1 degree in any discipline, a full driving licence, and the right to work in the UK.
Locations
Aldi UK is split into thirteen regions. Each region has its own Head Office, led by a Managing Director, and its own Regional Distribution Centre, with the National Head Office based in the Atherstone region. As an Area Manager you report to the Store Operations Director of your region. You confirm your preferred locations as part of the application, and if your first choice is not recruiting, Aldi may ask you to consider your second preference.
Aldi Graduate Scheme Salary and Eligibility
The Graduate Area Manager Programme pays a starting salary of £52,020, rising in fixed increments to £98,050 by year eight — plus a fully expensed company car from day one. You’ll need a 2:1 degree in any discipline, 96 UCAS points (63 Scottish Highers, or the equivalent from other qualifications) from your top three A-Levels or Highers, a full UK driving licence, and the right to work in the UK. The 52-week programme follows a fixed structure. Weeks 3-13 are spent on the shop floor stacking shelves and learning store operations. Weeks 15-24 give you the keys to a store once the detailed training is done. Weeks 25-28 put you in charge of your own store for a three-week cover, planning the rota, ordering over 1,700 products and managing your team. Weeks 30-37 cover the Area Manager role, regional workshops and Regional Office training. Weeks 39-45 assess you on technical tasks and leadership. Weeks 47-51 give you in-at-the-deep-end experience covering colleagues’ areas, and week 52 is your final review. A dedicated mentor supports you throughout.
The role comes with full autonomy fast: as soon as you’re ready — which can be in under a year — you take complete responsibility for your own group of stores, reporting to your region’s Store Operations Director.
Benefits
A fully expensed company car from day one, 5 weeks’ holiday + bank holidays, a discounted health cash plan and gym discounts, and potential UK, European or International secondment for strong performers. Curious what that looks like after tax? Run the numbers through Debut’s Paycheck Calculator.
Deadlines
Aldi’s application window for the 2026/27 recruitment season is open, and you can search for a Graduate Area Manager role on Aldi’s site. Recruitment runs region by region, and each region closes once its places are filled, so apply as soon as you find your target location rather than waiting.
What Aldi Graduate Scheme Pay Looks Like Next to the Market
£52,020 to start is well ahead of most 2026 graduate schemes, including the tech-focused BT Graduate Scheme and Amazon Graduate Scheme — the trade-off is a full year of hands-on store operations before you get real autonomy, rather than a faster route into a specialist function. Run the £52,020 starting figure through our Paycheck Calculator to see it against take-home pay.
FAQ
Do I need a driving licence?
Yes. You collect the keys to a fully expensed company car on day one, so Aldi asks for a driving licence, and a full licence is needed to drive the car.
How long is the programme?
12 months structured across 15 phases, though responsibility can be handed over sooner if you’re ready.
What happens after the programme?
Options include Warehouse Operations Area Manager, Project Area Manager, or an International Secondment to the US or Australia.
Do I need retail experience to apply?
Aldi’s listed requirements are the UCAS points, a 2:1 degree, a driving licence and the right to work in the UK. It doesn’t list retail experience as a requirement.
Is there a fixed application deadline?
There’s no single UK-wide date. Deadlines are set per region and close once filled, so check your target location’s live posting.
