IBM vs Accenture Graduate Scheme 2027: Which Should You Choose?

IBM hires into individual entry-level roles with no single deadline. Accenture recruits into four tracks with a 2026/27 intake that opened in September. Here is how they compare.

The IBM vs Accenture graduate scheme choice is a choice between two ways of hiring. IBM does not advertise one fixed UK graduate scheme: it hires into individual entry-level roles through its careers site, with separate routes for internships, an apprenticeship and a European sales programme. Accenture recruits into four tracks, Consulting, Strategy, Software Engineering and Operations, and its 2026/27 intake opened on 25 September 2026. Read our full guides to the IBM graduate scheme and the Accenture graduate scheme for the detail on each. For other consulting routes, see Capgemini vs Accenture and Deloitte.

The single biggest difference: roles one by one vs tracks with an intake

With IBM you apply to a specific job, and IBM’s application steps page says the hiring process may vary by location and region. You can apply to as many roles as you like, but applications cannot be edited after submission. With Accenture you choose a track, and each track is recruited separately, so your choice shapes the role and your starting pay band. In short: IBM rewards watching for roles and applying quickly to each, Accenture gives you a defined intake and a season of interviews that is commonly reported to run from November into spring.

What the job actually feels like

IBM’s consulting guidance lists tracks such as Developer, Data Scientist, Technical Specialist, Consultant and Designer, and warns that consultants can travel as much as 90% of the time depending on the client, according to IBM’s entry-level consultant guide. Purnima’s account above describes a path built on learning, mentorship and bold challenges, but she is in India, so read it as one person’s view.

Accenture says its online assessment is one part of hiring and does not replace interviews, and what you do day to day depends on whether you join Consulting, Strategy, Software Engineering or Operations. We did not find a named Accenture graduate quote we could verify, so we have not included one. For background on the role, read what a consultant does.

Programme structure

IBM. There is no single programme structure, because you apply to individual roles. IBM’s UK entry-level page lists four routes: the entry-level job search for recent graduates and students, internship programmes that put interns on projects from day one, the IBM Apprenticeship Program for people with experience but no degree, and the IBM Sales Accelerator Program for Europe (the intake on IBM’s page is based in Valencia, so it may not suit a UK-based applicant).

Accenture. Each track is recruited separately, and its UK graduates page lists which are open. Accenture’s other regional pages also list AI and Data and Cyber Security, so confirm what is open in the UK.

Application process

IBM describes five stages. Apply online to one role at a time. Screening follows, with IBMers reviewing your skills and experience. Then comes one or two online assessments, depending on the role: a coding assessment, a video assessment on webcam, and a text-based English language assessment. After that, an interview by phone, video or in person, or an assessment centre with a group exercise, and finally a decision and onboarding. For entry-level consulting, IBM’s guide also describes a first-round case interview and a second-round behavioural interview. IBM publishes an AI policy: AI is welcome for grammar, interview practice and company research, but not for generating a whole CV or cover letter, completing assessments, or answering live interviews. Violations can lead to disqualification.

Accenture does not publish a full UK stage-by-stage guide, so the steps combine its official wording with what applicants report: an online application via the Headstart platform, a timed online assessment usually completed within about 72 hours of the invitation (most take 30 to 90 minutes and are scored automatically), a video interview commonly reported as pre-recorded questions, and a final stage commonly reported as a half-day session, virtual or in person. Your invitation email is the reliable guide to format. Source: Bright Network, Accenture Consulting Graduate Programme.

Locations

Accenture UK graduate roles run across London (UK HQ, 30 Fenchurch Street), Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds, and many programmes recruit across several of these cities at once (source: Caseinterview, Accenture Office Locations).

IBM’s locations depend on the role: recent UK Graduate Software Engineer salary entries are mostly at Hursley, with one London entry, so check each posting for its location.

Deadlines

IBM has no single deadline. Roles are posted individually, so join the IBM Talent Network and set job alerts. Accenture’s 2026/27 intake opened on 25 September 2026, with interviews commonly reported to begin in November and continue into spring. Check Accenture’s official page for closing dates before you plan.

Benefits

Accenture lists 3 paid days a year for volunteering, matched pension contributions and a 15% discount on shares through its Employee Share Purchase Plan. IBM does not list a benefits package on the pages we opened, so confirm benefits in your offer.

A word from people already doing the job

Purnima’s IBM story is about mentorship and learning, but she is based in India, so it does not describe a UK graduate’s experience. We did not find a named Accenture graduate quote we could verify, and we have not invented one.

IBM vs Accenture graduate scheme 2027: which one should you apply to?

Choose IBM if you prefer to target specific roles in development, data science, design or consulting, you are comfortable with coding assessments and a case interview, or you have experience but no degree and want the apprenticeship route.

Choose Accenture if you want a track with a defined intake, you are drawn to Consulting, Strategy, Software Engineering or Operations, and you value the reported signing bonus.

Both processes start online and both can be competitive, so apply early and prepare for the assessments. For more options, compare Capgemini, Microsoft and Google, or browse the Graduate Scheme hub.
