Its 2026 round has closed and the Bank has not published 2027 dates yet, but you can register your interest for 2027. Who can apply to the Bank of England graduate scheme?
The Bank says the entry criteria are on each programme page and that it will update them in autumn 2026, so check them again before you register. We found no published minimum degree classification for 2027. If you studied outside the UK, the Bank points applicants to the UCAS tariff calculator to convert international qualifications. Graduate applicants who need sponsorship are assessed case by case, and the applicant pays the skilled worker visa costs. Because every role needs security vetting, you must declare any residence outside the UK in the last five years, and the Bank cannot employ you if checks are not possible for a country you lived in.
What a Bank colleague says
“…shaping the future of the Bank was a proud moment in my career.” That is Tim Breach, Central Operations, describing the flexible working project he led, on the Bank’s What we offer you page. It is one colleague’s account, not a graduate-programme participant, and we found no named graduate quote on the Bank’s current pages.
Bank of England graduate scheme salary and benefits
The Bank does not publish a graduate salary on its current pages. It describes a competitive base salary, an annual discretionary cash award that is not pensionable, and a defined-benefit, non-contributory career-average pension. Annual leave is 26 days with the option to buy more, plus paid study, family, carer and volunteering leave. Health cover includes private medical insurance, income protection and access to counsellors, and the optional Benefits+ scheme adds extras such as gym membership.
Bank of England graduate scheme application process
1. Application form
You register so the Bank can check you are eligible, then give your background, education and work experience and upload a CV. The free-text answers are where you explain your motivation, and the Bank says to take your time over them.
2. Situational judgement test
You get scenarios that reflect working life at the Bank and say what you would do. It shows how closely you match the Bank’s values. See our online tests guide and Watson Glaser guide for how employers use tests.
3. Video interview
You answer a set of questions in a video portal. Nobody is on camera live, each answer is recorded and reviewed later, there is a short thinking time, each question has a time limit and you cannot re-record. The Bank says successful applicants are told two weeks after the application deadline.
4. Virtual assessment centre
One group exercise and one interview. The interviewers ask motivation, behaviour-based and analytical or technical questions. The Bank uses the STARR method: situation, task, action, result, reflection. Our assessment centre guide and PwC assessment centre guide show how to prepare for a similar format.
5. Pre-employment checks
An offer depends on references, security clearance, identity, criminal record and credit checks, proof of qualifications, immigration clearance where relevant and a medical questionnaire. Do not hand in your notice until security clearance is granted, because the Bank will withdraw the offer if it is refused.
Using AI in your application
The Bank allows AI for research, proofreading and refining wording, but asks you not to copy and paste AI-generated answers. It says not to use any AI tool, assistant or platform during the video interview, live interview or group exercise. Read the full guidance on the Bank’s how to apply page.

How the Bank of England compares with other graduate schemes
The Bank’s route is closest to the public-sector pipeline: see the Civil Service Fast Stream and the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme, which also combine online tests with an assessment centre. Among banks, HSBC runs its own programme-by-programme deadlines, while the Bank publishes none yet for 2027. Check the graduate scheme deadlines calendar for dates that are already confirmed, and the graduate scheme hub for the full list.
