Incredibly valued as a person, respected for my skills and abilities.

The BAE Systems graduate scheme in the UK is run through three streams: Engineering, Technology and Business services. According to BAE Systems’ UK graduates page, the programme is non-rotational, so you choose your specialism from day one, and it develops you over 18 to 30 months. Roles are advertised one by one, some are open with 2027 starts and others already show as closed. This guide covers pay, eligibility including security vetting, the stages, locations and what BAE does not publish.

BAE lists open 2027 roles in two streams that we could read. On the Engineering graduates page, open roles include Airframe Engineer, Systems Engineer, Software Engineer, Electronic Engineer and Network Engineer, and many other roles are marked closed. On the Technology graduates page, open roles include Network Engineer, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Data Engineer, Electronic Engineer, Radio Frequency Engineer, Technology Management and Data Analyst, while Cyber Security, Business Analyst, DevOps Engineer and UX Consultant show as closed. Business services is the third stream; its page did not load for us, so check it directly.

Systems Engineer is advertised at sites including Barrow, Broad Oak, Brough, Cowes, Coventry, Filton, Frimley, Great Baddow, New Malden, Portsdown Technology Park, Scotstoun and Warton/Samlesbury. Who can apply to the BAE Systems graduate scheme?
BAE asks for a minimum 2:2 Bachelor’s degree in a subject related to your chosen area. The bigger filter is security. Every applicant must achieve at least Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), and many roles need higher National Security Vetting, which BAE says typically means 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK. Your nationality, previously held nationalities and place of birth can restrict which roles you can do. You can apply for only one role per year, so choose carefully.
BAE Systems graduate application process: stages
BAE describes the same three stages in two places, without durations (Not published).
- Short online application.
- Online assessment. Interactive, gamified challenges plus an on-demand video interview.
- Competency-based interview. Virtual or face to face.
How to prepare for the BAE Systems graduate scheme
- Check security eligibility first. Residency, nationality and place of birth can limit which roles you can take, so read the role page before you invest time.
- Apply early in the window. The main window starts in September and roles can close without notice.
- Practise gamified and video assessments. Stage two combines interactive challenges with an on-demand video interview.
- Prepare competency examples for the final interview, tied to your chosen specialism.
- Choose one role. BAE allows only one application per year.
BAE Systems graduate salary and benefits
BAE Systems publishes a starting salary of £34,000, plus a £2,000 welcome payment and an optional 20% salary advance (Official, BAE Systems’ UK graduates page). On many programmes, professional qualifications are fully funded. The programme starts with a two-week immersive induction, followed by 1:1 coaching, and each graduate gets a buddy, mentor, coach and graduate development lead. We found no third-party salary survey, so there is no independent figure to compare.
How BAE Systems compares with other UK graduate schemes
BAE is unusual because you specialise from day one rather than rotating, and because security vetting can decide which roles you may take. If you prefer a rotation-based engineering scheme, compare Rolls-Royce, Siemens and Shell; Airbus is covered on our Airbus graduate scheme page. All are in our graduate scheme opening dates table.
