Job Description
American Express is seeking a Credit Analyst to join our team in evaluating and assessing the creditworthiness of new and existing clients. This position will involve detailed financial analysis, reporting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and data-driven decisions.
Duties and Work Process
- Analyze and interpret financial statements to determine credit risk for new applications and reviews of existing accounts.
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and justifications to stakeholders such as Finance, Risk Management, and Sales teams.
- Collaborate with underwriters, relationship managers, and other internal partners to ensure prompt and accurate credit decisions.
- Prepare reports summarizing key credit metrics, trends, and portfolio performance.
- Monitor delinquency, default, and exposure levels, suggesting improvements or revisions of credit policies as necessary.
- Maintain strict compliance with both internal credit policies and external regulatory requirements.
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills, specifically in interpreting complex financial data.
- Proficiency in Excel and other data-processing tools.
- Solid understanding of credit risk assessment, credit scoring models, and financial statement analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for relaying credit decisions and insights.
- Keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and reliability in credit evaluations.
Work Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2+ years in a credit analysis, risk management, or similar role.
- Experience in a financial services or banking environment is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of identifying and mitigating credit risks in diverse portfolios.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Master’s degree is a plus but not required.
