How much money do firefighters make starting off as a firefighter with no prior experience or training in any other areas of firefighting before joining a department?
Top Answer
Paid fire departments start them off in a training class of usually six months and they do get paid in training. The pay is varied due to the department. Austin Texas starts its trainees at $21.00 an hour or 43,600 per year. After 6 months training they are probationary firefighters and earn 55,200/year or about a 1000 dollar a month raise. After a six month probation if all works out there is another raise when they become certified firefighters.
