Because MRI requires additional post-registration training beyond general radiography, pay here tends to start higher than X-ray roles but grows more slowly at the top end. Specialist neuro or cardiac MRI experience is the clearest route to senior-level pay, along with taking on supervisory or superintendent radiographer duties. Independent MRI-only diagnostic centres, common in private healthcare groups, are another route to above-average pay for experienced technologists.
