How do you get paid more as a dental hygienist?

As of now hygienist are in high demand in my area. They are naming their price but usually between 350–360 per day. Some I have heard of are making 50.00 per hour which would be 400.00 based on a 8 hour day . Another way of paying is a split Is a split usually 60–40. My daughter is a hygienist that’s where I’m getting my information . She works 2 days in one office which is her home office then temps in others offices which she gets paid more. Most only with 3–4 days a week if you want more money pick up some temp work. Most offices here pay bonus also when you meet your goal for the month. I’ve been in dentistry 40 years have never know a hygienist that had to clean rooms for assistants . With a full schedule they don’t have time to. Hope this helps

A better employee usually gets better salary and benefits.

Most Hygienists are hired to clean teeth, instruct on home care, do their job well and be a good co-worker.

The best Hygienists we have had do all that but also go out into the community/schools and disperse brushing and flossing techniques and home care and answer questions not only about the job but also about the schooling. They attend Health Clinics given by the town and they go to not only the ADA meetings but also all needed Hygiene meetings and Continuing Ed Courses.

The best Hygienists chip in around the office when needed, help with insurance explanations, procedure explanations, clean up after not only themselves but the other operatories if we’re running behind, jump into the assistant’s chair if needed…you’ve heard of 4 handed dentistry? (Dr and assistant) well once in awhile you need 6 hands. They come to work with multiples of their own instruments and hand pieces and they sharpen and take good care of them.

Every worker is given a benefit package depending on their job description. This includes pay, dental care, health care, vacation and sick leave. What goes beyond this and is at the discretion of the Dentist and Office Manager (me) is if you are invaluable to the office then the office is far more willing to work with you on your benefit package (and raises)
