Business management student Aoibheann had certain perceptions about graduate recruitment in her final year of university. “I think the general approach of students is to just put in as many applications as possible and think they’re bound to hear back from some.” In contrast, Aoibheann submitted just two, one with Network Rail through Debut after she was Messaged.
Right in the middle of assignments and exams in November, it was Debut’s reminders that gave her the push she needed to apply and she’s never looked back. After a variety of application stages, including a video interview and assessment centre, she is now starting her career in Network Rail’s HR department. “Even though there were a lot of stages, it was really efficient and took about four months in total.
“My experience with graduate recruitment was straightforward, simple and positive, because you can see you’re actually wanted by the company through Debut’s Messaging. You’re not just putting in any applications for companies you don’t even know if you want to work for. With Debut, you target your applications a lot more when you get those Messaged.”
Not only did Debut help Aoibheann secure her graduate job, the app also helped her complete her degree as well. She wrote an essay about Debut CEO and founder Charlie Taylor for a module on her Business Management course. “It was really all about how Debut has reversed the traditional recruitment process. Obviously there are other recruitment sites out there, but there is nothing that is doing something as unique as Debut.”
Thanks to the app, Aoibheann has just made the big move across to England to get started in her new HR role with a company she had never previously considered. “I’m so happy to be working for Network Rail. It just never even crossed my mind that they would be such a big graduate employer, so I’m glad the app drew my attention to that.”
