  • Assist classroom teachers in their work in ensuring that students with special education needs make good progress and participate in lessons.
  • Assisting with planning and delivering small group tutoring or catch-up programmes
  • Assisting with planning and delivering one-to-one tutoring or catch-up programmes
  • Observe, record and feedback information on student performance
  • Work with the Assistant SENCO and subject teachers to ensure that teaching and resources are adjusted in line with Individual Pen Portraits - helping prepare resources as necessary
  • Provide administrative support to Academy staff by ensuring teaching resources are prepared to an excellent standard and on time for classroom use
  • Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of the child with special needs and promoting individual students' self esteem
  • Act as a Key Worker for some students with special educational needs by retaining and oversight of their progress and participation
  • To undertake break time and lunchtime duties as directed
  • Assist the teaching staff in the smooth transition between educational phases
  • Acting in line with the School and Trust policies and procedures
  • Be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school work and to keep confidences as appropriate
  • Undertaking any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Good organisational skills

Desired qualifications

Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) Level 4/C or above

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Teaching Assistant Standard, with support from your employer and Learning Unlimited.

As part of your apprenticeship and dependent on your prior attainment you may be required to complete maths, and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded an additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.
