The Supportability Engineering function is responsible for assessing the impact of design decisions on the Reliability, Maintainability, Testability and Safety of our Products.
This requires the engineers to work closely with the design teams to ensure the opportunity for failures are minimised and the impacts of failure on: maintenance tasks; fault diagnostics/fault isolation; spares; technical publications; training; support infrastructure and safety is understood and addressed, and the Support Solutions developed to meet the Customers operational needs.
These summer placement roles will be looking to development our capability and understanding of two key areas of future design and development activities: Big Data and Model Driven Engineering (MDE)/Agile Development.
Big Data will be looking to find ways to analyse equipment operational data to expose pre-cursors to failures. This will enhance our understanding of failure propagation, tracking and forecasting, enabling better predictions of repair volumes and spares.
This will require the candidate to explore equipment operational data, identify failure oints and the underlying failure mechanisms, explore links to probability models and simulation techniques in order to identify how failures can be predicted in real time through understanding links to operational data.
The application of Model Driven Engineering and Agile Development approaches to reduce product development time and time to market mean Support Characteristics need to be understood quicker and more effectively in this dynamic and semi automated environment. Understanding how Supportability Engineering needs to adapt to work in an Agile environment and utilise MDE processes to help understand the Support Solutions needed in the future to manage these maintainable products.
Candidates should have completed at least two years of electronics, physics or mathematics related degree.
Some experience of computer programming and simulation is preferred.
High levels of interpersonal skills are essential as the role requires the constant liaison with engineering staff from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds.
