We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team as a Software Testing Apprentice.

Your duties will include:

  • Testing changes to systems and websites
  • Monitoring applications to identify potential issues
  • Create plans for testing new products and features
  • Ensure changes follow specifications, requirements or user stories and user stories
  • Working with developers and team members to ensure projects run smoothly
  • Being involved throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Identifying risks to the software
  • Providing feedback and reporting on the software.

You will be working alongside a team of talented tech professionals who are passionate about the industry. Contributing to big projects and learning new skills.

How we will support you as an apprentice

At least 20% of your time at work is ring fenced and dedicated to your apprenticeship learning and training tasks.

We will arrange for you to have extra time in the first 3 months to help you get off to the best start.

As well as your workplace Mentor in the workplace, you will also be appointed a buddy who will be another point of contact in your day to day activities and there to help if your mentor is not available.

You will have regular check-ins with your mentor and The Coders Guild to review progression and discuss completed and forthcoming tasks.

We are looking for someone who shows a keen interest in Software Testing and the technology industry in general.

If you have any industry or Bootcamp experience, this is a real bonus, but not a deal breaker!

You will definitely need to enjoy learning and being open to mastering new skills as the tech industry is always evolving. This may involve independent reading and using online materials to build on your skills and find answers to your queries.

A keen eye for detail is also a must!

Personal qualities

We are looking for someone with an enthusiastic, questioning and professional attitude with a commitment to learning new skills.

You will need to be punctual, reliable, honest with a strong work ethic and a can-do outlook.

You must be able to work as part of a team and contribute to team meetings, but also be able to work on your own to targets and deadlines.

Desired qualifications

No formal qualifications required.

Future prospects

As a top growth and ever changing industry, you will have gained the knowledge and experience to progress with your career into Senior Testing positions or other specialisms in the industry.

Training is provided by a team of highly skilled professional testers at The Coders Guild, an industry rated, award-winning training provider.

Your trainers will equip you with the knowledge and experience to achieve your Level 4 Software Testing qualification and where necessary other supporting qualifications.

Everything you learn during the training sessions will be current and directly applicable to your work as the curriculum is overseen and under constant review by industry experts.

Group training (with other Software Testing apprentices) will form the main component of your learning from The Coders Guild. For the foreseeable future, these sessions will be run in Zoom

Developing core skills is also extremely important, group training will often focus on teamwork and improving abilities around problem solving, prioritisation, exploratory testing, communication and understanding biases, - skills we have identified that make a good tester.

Regular 1:1 discussions and reviews with your trainers will also form part of your learning.

In the workplace you will be designated a Mentor - an experienced tester/or technical lead who will be responsible for your learning at work.

To support learning, you will receive access to the Ministry of Testing; Pro Membership, the biggest testing community in the world, with talks and courses amongst lots of great testing content.

They are also provided with testing books to support their learning.

Subject to social distancing restrictions, at various points in the year, we arrange residential field trips to conferences, hackathons, group training or team building events.

Wherever possible training is learner-led and we seek to make learning an enjoyable and involving experience.
