Apprenticeships combine on the job and off the job training. On the job, an apprentice will work with an employers mentor or line manager, learning the skills on site and working towards the competency element of the qualifications. Off the job, apprentices work with their assessor and have access to resources, such as a workbook, to ensure they learn the knowledge elements of the framework. If the required level of Maths, English and ICT qualifications have not been previously achieved or where qualifications are no longer in date, apprentices must also complete functional skill qualifications in these subjects. These would be completed through agreed delivery methods and support including classroom, distance learning, e-learning and assessor support.
