  • Aim to provide technical support; answering support queries either via phone, emails or onsite

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Having the following knowledge or experiences is beneficial but isn't overall necessary
  • Able to escalate IT Issues to the IT Manager where necessary
  • Experience or base knowledge of diagnosing and resolving technical issues
  • Passion for providing an excellent and high standard of customer service at all times
  • Knowledge of setting up and configuring new laptops and desktops
  • Installing authorized software to laptops and desktops
  • Able to ensure security and upgrades are applied to desktops and laptops and kept up to date
  • Experience or knowledge with Antivirus installation to all desktops and laptops
  • Fault finding to laptops and desktops
  • Confidence in reporting faults and maintaining logs on servers, desktops and laptops

Personal qualities

  • Appropriate motivation to work with young people
  • Ability to form appropriate relationships with young people
  • Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
  • Appropriate attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
  • Able to give clear and concise guidance to others
  • Able to keep accurate records
  • Literacy skills to read and understand technical language and instructions
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Able to work independently for long periods of time
  • Able to communicate politely and tactfully with all school users

Desired qualifications

At least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) including maths and English.

Future prospects

As well as the chance to receive full on the job training throughout, by the end of the apprenticeship you'll have gained nationally accredited qualifications as well as English & maths Functional Skills Level 2. The business aim to provide opportunities for further employment at the end of this training; subject to successful completing the course and showcasing the right skills and attributes throughout.

Things to consider

The Apprentice must be aware that this post will require them to work term times in conjunction with the School.

The Apprentice will have a workplace mentor who will visit a couple of times a week, but the majority of the work will be done independently.

The Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship standard will enable you to gain the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours to provide first or second line support to internal and external customers and stakeholders to help them be productive when using technology.

Due to the teams expansion they are looking for a technically minded, driven and motivated individual to join them and assist in providing high quality and timely ICT technical support and training to their client; St Michaels VA Junior School based within Norwich.

The Apprentice who is successful in this position will have the opportunity to truly delve into the world of Technology, IT and Infrastructure Support with the chance to gain an industry accredited qualification with full support and training in the Infrastructure Technician Apprentice Level 3 standard; along with additional vendor qualifications in CompTIA A+ units.
