The post will sit in the Innovation Enterprise and Employability (IEE) Team at Birmingham City University (BCU). The IEE team are successfully delivering a number of European Social Fund (ESF) Projects and this role is aligned to the award-winning Higher Level Skills Match - Extension (HLSME) project. This is the second round of ESF funding awarded to the project.

The Project:

  • Is designed to benefit Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the GBSLEP area;
  • Is a partnership of local Universities and Local Authorities;
  • Drives the improvement of student and graduate employability, through identifying, developing and helping to retain local graduate talent to drive local growth by delivering a bespoke business engagement strategy;
  • Is designed with and for businesses;
  • Will secure commitments from local business owners and leaders to contribute strategically and/or operationally to the realisation of the GBS LEPs vison to radically re-shape the local education and skills eco-system, and directly influence the City-regions employment and skills strategy;
  • Directly works towards supporting the ambitious targets BCU have for the Graduate Outcomes Survey;
  • Provides upskilling and networking opportunities for business employees.

As part of a team of Graduate Talent Consultants (GTCs), you will:

  • Increase and enhance employer engagement through the curriculum in respect of jobs, placements, live briefs and mentoring;
  • Be the link between BCUs students and graduates and our key external partners;
  • Deliver effective employer engagement activities;
  • Develop substantive relationships to drive graduate level employment outcomes;
  • Drive employer led event activity which actively connects graduates with employment outcomes;
  • Provide account management support to businesses, identifying and tackling their skills gaps through a range of schemes, initiatives and graduate talent pipelines available across the University;
  • Source more graduate opportunities in the regional economy for BCU graduates via HLSME.

We are looking for highly motivated professionals with:

  • A track record of working towards and reporting to a variety of targets;
  • Extensive and recent experience of working with employers, preferably SMEs, external partnerships and knowledge of the Higher Education environment;
  • The ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders to further support your work and the work of the wider team;
  • Experience and understanding of using a range of IT packages, CRM systems and social media;
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills;
  • The ability to manage conflicting deadlines and the differing requirements of a diverse range of stakeholders;
  • Experience of delivering projects which are funded by ESF is desirable, but not essential.
