The team is responsible for the delivery of the DD Learning and Development strategy to ensure the workforce has the critical technical and leadership capabilities required to deliver for Defence. Responsibilities include: talent management and succession planning; development scheme management including graduates and apprentices; commissioning the learning and development offer; delivering Leadership Development, Line-management capability programmes and Continuing Professional Development; Induction, mandatory training, training administration and management of the L&D Portal. In addition we are leading the Learning Service workstream of the people transformation programme, supporting the transition of the workforce to a new organisation structure and the professionalisation agenda, which involves everything from the delivery of a digital learning platform to embedding a learning culture.

This role operates at Level 2 in the Civil Service HR Career Framework - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). Team members are strongly encouraged to undertake Continuing Professional Development activities to ensure currency of knowledge and skills and support progression through the Civil Service HR Career Pathway. Post holders who do not already hold a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualification will be supported to achieve this. Additional training is available to support delivery of tasking and continuing professional development of leadership and management skills. Individuals are also encouraged to provide mentoring and coaching opportunities to support the continuing professional development of individuals both within the function and across the business, and to take advantage of these opportunities to support their own development.
In particular this post is responsible for:
- Direct appointments - Apprentice and Graduate Programme Management: For assigned cohorts, lead for the design and delivery of the Defence Digital apprentice and graduate programme learning journey including developing and realising the support offer (coaching, mentoring, induction, networks and quality assurance of the programmes
- In-service Talent Management: Design and delivery of activities in support of talent assessment and development, including promoting the uptake of the in-service development offer including Professional Apprenticeships, and developing and realising the support offer (induction, mentoring, networks, quality assurance).
You will also manage delivery of learning and development activities to support the Defence Digital core (leadership and management) learning programme and deliver communications and engagement activities to ensure staff understand the range of learning and development opportunities available to them and how to access them including developing and managing content for the Sharepoint Learning and Skills Portal, newsletters and other promotional activities including Learning at Work week.
Occasional travel to other Defence Digital locations to meet learners may be required but times will be agreed with notice given.
