Reporting to the Bar Manager, duties will include; provide excellent levels of customer service, take orders for food and drink, cash handling and serving food.

Responsible To: Bar Manager and Bar Supervisor or Manager on duty.

Principal Accountabilities

To support the Bar manager, in ensuring the efficient operation of the Lounge & Bar, to provide excellent customer service, and to maintain a clean and hygienic working environment.

Specific Duties

Follow all procedures for stock control, minimisation of wastage, stock rotation and weights and measures in order to help maintain budgeted gross profit.

Make suggestions to Caf bar manager on initiatives to increase revenues.

Ensure that you offer an excellent level of customer care at all times.

Ensure all decisions are made with the needs of the customer in mind.

Support the training of new colleagues where asked to do so

Ensure that any customer complaints and complements during your shift, are referred to the Bar/Duty Manager straight away.

To ensure you are aware of, and enforcing, legal regulations on the sale of alcohol

To be responsible for adhering to government regulations for the sale of alcohol, and weights and measures

Be responsible for ensuring, during your shift, that you never allow the sale of alcohol to any person under the age of 18. And that all persons looking 21 or under are asked for legal ID (passport, driving license or Pass logo card).

Ensure the safety and correct handing of all cash in the bar tills during your Measures shift, following set procedures and ensuring that the correct amounts are charged and collected from customers.

Provide feedback and suggestions to the Bar manager, in order to assist in maintaining a range of quality snacks and beverages in keeping with the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club brand and customer preferences.

Adhere to procedures regarding the control and recording of all stock in the bar.

To advise the Bar manager, of any stock needs, in a timely manner, to maintain appropriate levels.

Take responsibility for helping to maintain a high quality of Health and Safety, cleanliness and food hygiene in all areas.

Support the Bar manager in ensuring a high pass rate for any food hygiene inspections (Maintain 3 star rating and pursue ha higher rating)

Adhere to a strict cleaning rota for all areas.

Inform the Bar manager or Duty Manager, of any faulty or damaged equipment as soon as possible.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures

Undertake required relevant training and development and respond positively to new and alternative systems

Wear appropriate protective clothing that is supplied, as an when required

Follow health and hygiene procedures, where required

Comply with all Hallamshire policies and procedures

Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines

Introduces customers to the menu and announces daily or seasonal menu specials

Answers questions about menu items, ingredients, and pricing

Takes customers orders for food and drink by writing them on a ticket, entering them into a tablet, or memorizing them

Passes customer orders along to kitchen staff for preparation

Prepares drinks and serves them to customers

Collects food orders from the kitchen, verifies that they are correct, and serves them to customers

Ensures that customers are satisfied with their meals and processes orders for additional courses if necessary

Removes used dishes, glasses, and flatware from tables

Prepares cheques and delivers them to customers

Processes cash and credit card payments and returns change to customers if necessary

Sets tables with dishes, glasses, and flatware and refills condiments

Maintains familiarity with menu items, specials, and restaurant information

Meets with managers and wait staff daily or regularly in order to learn about menu changes and specials as well as discuss upcoming reservations and customers with special needs

Special Conditions

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS clearance check

The post holder will be required to work on a shift system which includes weekdays, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

To undertake any other duties as may be required in addition to those specified in the job description.

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday 8.30am - 4pm or 4pm - 11.30pm, occasional functions on Fri and Sat to 1am.

Other Information

The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is 4.30 from 1st April 2021. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies
