We are looking for an Apprentice - Reactive Scheme Delivery, to join our team!

About the project

East Sussex Highways is a joint venture between Costain and Jacobs which brings together all aspects of highway maintenance, such as roads, pavements, drainage, street lights, traffic signals, winter maintenance and highway structures such as bridges and retaining walls. These are all managed by this Joint Venture and sub-contractors working collaboratively with East Sussex county council to deliver the service.

What will I be doing?

This role is located within the Operations and Reactive team in the Heathfield Depot and will support the Minor Works, Highway Stewards, Licencing & Enforcement and Core Programming Teams with delivery and administration of the day to day operations and service

  • Research customer enquiries for operations and provide accurate and timely information, advice and guidance to internal and external customers. This includes providing responses to enquiries in writing, via the telephone and in person as appropriate. Contribute to the resolution of complaints in a timely manner in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Assist Schedulers in the network hub with the programming of works for day works gangs and schemes delivery.
  • Raise C2 stats for all works delivered out of Heathfield supporting operations delivery.
  • Actively create comprehensive job packs for schemes works in support of safe working practices for the teams.
  • Provide administrative support to the Highway Stewards, Licencing and Enforcement Team.
  • Prepare where necessary management information, including the analysis, manipulation and presentation of data as appropriate. Plan and organise your work, having regard to the effective use of available statistics.
  • Deliver SPI reports meeting deadlines required for the department.
  • Flexible covering of leave or sickness for the team developing versatile skill set for reactive business.
  • Maintain and process paper and ICT based systems and records for the coordination of road works using appropriate ICT systems as required for a designated service area. Ensuring that information is timely and accurately inputted, stored securely and confidentially and enables retrieval for the provision of coordination for meetings and stakeholders

What will the programme involve?

  • A recognised qualification in Level 3 Business Administration (12 months duration)
  • Monthly workshops with other apprentices working towards your qualification
  • Attendance on apprentice development programme
  • On-going support and reviews on your progress
  • 6 monthly pay increases based on performance and attendance
  • Options to attend career and personal development events
  • Training in line with your qualification

Right to Work & Security Checks

Understandably given the nature of our business, everyone who is employed at Costain must undergo thorough referencing checks. We will need different information depending on the job we have offered you. For all roles, well carry out a criminal record check and well ask to see evidence that you have the legal right to work in the UK.

For some of our roles, you may be required to obtain and maintain security clearance of at least Security Check level (or SC clearance). To satisfy the requirements, you will need to have been a legal UK resident for a minimum of 5 years and have successfully complete all stages of the vetting process.
