ESHT is committed to offering new employees an apprenticeship programme of study to support their role. Please ask when you apply/at interview if you are keen to undertake a programme and we can check if there is a suitable one available to match your role (the opportunities available are changing all the time, there may not be something for you at the time of your appointment but a programme may be written over the coming months which suits you). Apprenticeships are available at level 2 (GCSE equivalent) right up to Degree or Masters level so don't forget to check with us.
As a result of the initiative for apprentice posts within the NHS we have another exciting opportunity that has arisen in East Sussex Health Care for the position of a full time apprentice Podiatrist.
The post holder will be employed for the period of the apprenticeship with East Sussex Health Care Trust (ESHT), and will undertake study at University of Brighton (UoB) as part of this apprenticeship (subject to successful interview with the UoB for commencement on the apprenticeship programme due to start September 2021).
This is a developmental role. You will work towards successful completion of a degree in podiatry and recognition by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an AHP Podiatrist. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Podiatrist within the service and through completion of the Podiatry training programme which includes working in clinic and community care settings and delivery of direct person-centred care. Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a podiatry assistant.
The apprentice Podiatry programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. As a apprentice podiatrist you will be based, as an employee, within East Sussex Healthcare Trust working in hospital, community and clinical settings in order that you gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts to enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc Podiatry programme.
The minimum entry requirements are:
5 GCSEs Grade C or above in Maths and English Language / New GCSE Grade 4-9 in Maths and English Language OR Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (not entry level 2) are essential.
Applications are invited from motivated individuals who are keen to begin an exciting career in Podiatry. You will have the unique opportunity to be one of the first people in the country who will be undertaking this course in the new format, as an apprentice you will be working in ESHT full time and will be released to undertake study at University of Brighton, where you will work alongside other students who are also undertaking the BSc in Podiatry.
You will be required to work in our acute hospital sites as well as our community clinics in the wider community health services. Car driver is therefore essential. Your work will involve working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Podiatry team as well as liaising with GPs, Tissue Viability, District and Practice nurses.
