  • To provide first line technical support to users
  • To work with other members of the IT Services team to investigate, test and implement new technologies
  • To provide professional and customer oriented support to IT users throughout the College
  • Resolve where possible helpdesk calls within SLA timescales

  • Good understanding of PC hardware set-up and configuration
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Experience of working within a customer service environment dealing with customers
  • Experience of producing documents (letters, emails, reports)
  • Experience of communicating on the telephone and electronically
  • Evidence of a commitment to personal and professional development

Desired qualifications

Must have GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English.

Level 2 qualification in IT or equivalent qualification relevant to industry.

The successful candidate may have the opportunity to progress to paid employment.

Things to consider

The successful applicant will need to apply for a DBS check to work in the College environment.

The post holder would be required to demonstrate an ability to discretion and maintaining confidentiality.

Must be willing to undertake appropriate training and development in order to meet the requirements of the college.

Awareness of health and safety requirements.

Place of Work:

The principal place of work will be at Bolton Colleges Deane Rd Campus. However, the post holder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises at which the College may, from time to time, provide services or at other locations, mainly in the Bolton area when required. As part of their duties, the post holder may be required to travel within the United Kingdom. Such travel may include attendance at conferences or seminars for the purpose of maintaining and updating their professional skills.

Working Hours:

The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities with a minimum of 37 hours per week. The post holder may from time to time be required to work on a Saturday or Sunday, in which case time off in lieu will be given during the normal working week. The post will require some evening work to support student performance and may require Saturday working.
