What are psychometric assessments?
They are a form of assessment used to measure an individual’s mental capabilities and skills, their personality and their behaviours.
Why are they used?
They provide objective information on whether a candidate’s personality and abilities match with what is required from a particular job role and company culture.
When are they used?
They are used alongside traditional interview and application processes and will most likely take the form of an online test, but may be paper-based. In this instance, Debut has three mobile assessments on offer: one personality assessment, and two ability assessments.
What do they measure?
A number of things, including (but not limited to):
- Personality strengths
- Work-related behaviour
- Numerical reasoning
- Verbal reasoning
How can I prepare?
The assessments are not something you can practice for, however to familiarise yourself with the process you may wish to complete some example assessments online beforehand.
What are the different types?
Debut offers two forms of assessments:
- Personality assessments: these measure your top personality strengths, such as innovation, vision and influence
- Ability assessments: these measure your work-related cognitive strengths, such as numerical reasoning and verbal reasoning
How do they work?
The personality assessment is an untimed questionnaire about your preferred workplace behaviours. It is made up of 48 questions which will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
The questionnaire will present three statements each time, and you can allocate a total of six points to the statements that represent your personality most. The results of the personality assessment will be in the form of a report, which will reveal your top three strengths.
The two ability assessments will each take around 6 minutes to complete, and will be broken down into Numerical reasoning and Verbal reasoning.
For the personality assessments and all ability assessments, you will receive a report with a full summary of your results. You will also have the option to invite friends to take the personality and ability assessments and discover their strengths.
What strengths are revealed in the personality assessment?
Once completed, you will receive a report outlining your top six work-related strengths.
Are they timed?
The current tests are not timed. The personality assessment is untimed and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The rest of the ability assessments will take around 6 minutes each.
What happens if I am unable to finish an assessment?
If for some reason you need to stop mid-way through an assessment, you will need to email email@example.com in order to request the assessment be reset.
Which companies use psychometric assessments?
Any company can implement psychometric assessments, but they are usually used by companies with in-demand roles, companies who receive numerous applications or have a niche company culture where finding a candidate with the right personality is paramount.
What companies take into consideration the results of these assessments?
Some of our employers will be targeting candidates for specific Talent Spots based on their personality and ability assessment results.
Can I re-do the assessments?
Yes, you can re-do the assessments every six months but doing this will erase your previous results.
Can I do a trial before doing the actual assessments?
No, however there are detailed instructions included to help you understand the structure of the assessments before you begin.
Do I have to do all the assessments?
No, you don’t have to do all the assessments. You can select which ones you want to complete, however completing all the assessments will increase your chances of being discovered by employers.
Will I be penalised if I don’t do these assessments?
No, the assessments are optional. However, taking them may help you get Talent Spotted by employers.
Will my assessment results be added to my profile?
Your results will be available to view on the Abilities tab, but not added to your profile information. Employers will only see the results they are targeting; for example, if you respond to a Talent Spot or apply for a role that requires a high level of Verbal Reasoning, they will only see your results for the relevant assessment/s.
