“My name is Freddie, I study Sports Science with Business Management at Loughborough University, and I’m in my final year.
I found out about Debut online. What drew my attention to it was the fact that it was an app. This made it so much more user-friendly, and I thought it would make applying for internships and graduate schemes so much easier than it currently was. It was all in one app, which meant less paperwork, and you didn’t need to answer a billion different job application questions. One profile, filled in once, and all you have to wait for the Talent Spots to roll in
Web-based recruitment platforms are really disconnected, because once you click on an opportunity you like, it takes you to a different website. With Debut, it’s all on one platform, which makes it a lot easier to use. I received quite a few Talent Spots through Debut (mostly finance opportunities), but the WPP opportunity was the one that stood out to me the most. It struck me as a rare find, as I hadn’t seen any opportunities from them elsewhere. In fact, I think I only found out about WPP through the Debut Talent Spot, which was for an exclusive WPP event.
I went to the event, and was pleasantly surprised to be surrounded by 20 fellow Debut Talent-Spotted attendees. The event was good! WPP put on the event to get feedback on a brand new healthcare-related graduate scheme they were constructing, on how to advertise the pharmaceutical industry. We were put into teams to provide our feedback on the proposal. After that, we had the opportunity to meet with senior employees, directors and board members, and got the chance to speak to them directly about the industry and any potential WPP opportunities. Talking to the senior team was very beneficial, as I realised the skills and experience I had truly related to the internship they were offering. I was really pleased to have been offered the WPP internship after that, as advertising was a new industry I was only just beginning to consider. “
