The fellas over at LinkedIn put their data-mining caps on to collate the thousands of skills you can add to your profile. You know, like the one time your friend endorsed you for ‘Yacht Sailing’ as a joke? Yeah, that one.
They then compared these skills to hiring and recruiting activity across the platform. The more attention received by recruiters, the higher the skills were ranked.
Without further ado, here they are:

Now, they’ve put together their global list on their website here. You can even find what the top ten skills of 13 other countries are (in case you were thinking of migrating).
Now if you notice, most of these skills are pretty tech-based. Digital skills are becoming more and more sought after in all industries – after all, everyone’s going paper-less. Apparently, the UK needs another 745,000 workers with digital skills by 2017, with the current digital skills gap costing the economy £63bn a year in lost income.
LinkedIn’s findings hammer home the need to encourage young people to look at digital skills with a higher perceived importance. Some even argue they are just as important as basic literacy in English and Maths.
So, what are you waiting for? Get on that CodeAcademy hype. Improving your digital skills can only make your chances of getting an awesome job in 2017 even greater.
